What is a Schultüte?

How to fill the Schultüte

Typically, a Schultüte is brimming with practical treasures like crayons, school supplies, small toys, or even CDs, along with a few sweet treats to add an extra touch of joy. You might consider including a new lunch box or water bottle, a cosy cushion shaped like your child’s initial, a fun alarm clock, a stylish neck purse, magnetic letters, or a photo album—the possibilities are endless! Just be sure not to overload it, as the kids will be carrying their Schultüte around on their first day. It’s usually opened at home with a special little ceremony. To help you get started, I’ve put together a selection of stationery that was always a hit with my own kids.

About Schmidtify and me

As a mom of two amazing kids, I’ve always had a passion for arts and crafts. My little ones often whisk me back to the joy and wonder of my own childhood, making every creative moment a nostalgic adventure. Over the years, the Schultüten Project has become incredibly special to me. It’s not just a chance for me to indulge in my love for beautiful papers, sparkling glitter, and imaginative designs—it’s also an opportunity to help parents who might not have the same crafty skills. I’ve always loved wearing dresses that are bold, glittery, and full of unique patterns. My friends joked that I was “Schmidtifying” their lives with my distinctive style, and that playful nickname inspired the name for my small business.

HIT Help in Time

For years, HIT Help in Time has supported numerous small projects. Our work has shown us that these projects can make a significant impact - serving as a step in the right direction. Often, targeted initiatives are enough to help others forget their daily struggles, experience education and training, and gain new perspectives. The gratitude, trust, and joy we receive are worth more than any material reward, and this has inspired and motivated us to continue our efforts. HIT primarily supports projects in Cape Town. The need among many children and their families in South Africa is incredibly high. With our local presence, we can maintain personal contact with the projects and their initiators—something that is very important to us. We select projects on an individual basis, offering help where it is needed and where we can see sustainable development.
