What is a Schultüte?

It is a German tradition that school children get sweetened up on their first day in school with a sugar cone, a so-called “Schultüte”. It is made of cardboard, felt, fabric, and alike and filled with sweets and stationery. In South Africa, this tradition is carried on by the parents of children that attend German schools (Deutsche Internationale Schule). Unfortunately, there is no shop where you can buy this cone already done, so you would have to do it yourself. As not all mums and dads are crafty, allow me to take over the arts & crafts section while you fill up the cone with whatever your child desires. Thus, the first day at school will be a memorable one. I have also teamed up with a dear friend from an NPO called HIT - Help in Time. With the support of donations, HIT can provide children in need with food and monetary support to bring the children through their school career. As the donors are mainly German, we provide for each of the HIT children a Schultüte as well. Chat to us should you be interested to also making a donation.
